Parkersburg native Aaron Thomas will be the keynote speaker. Aaron Thomas is a coach, administrator, and public speaker and the son of legendary coach Ed Thomas. The elder Thomas was shot and killed by one of his former football players in 2009. The story gained national attention and Aaron was the family spokesperson in the wake of this father's death. Due to his unique life experiences, Aaron will share about the power of one and standing for something.
He and his family are the recipients of the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage presented at the 2010 ESPY Awards, and Aaron received the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference most courageous award for being the people Ed Thomas would have expected. Along with his family and the help of author Mark Tabb, Thomas writes about his father and the lessons he taught him in his book, The Sacred Acre: The Ed Thomas Story (August 2011).
Thomas received both his bachelor's (2001) and his master's (2008) degrees from Drake University.
Morning radio personality, Jen Green from Life 107.1 will emcee the event. Her mornings with co-host Taylor are a time to uplift you, make you think and make you laugh. Jen and her family have made West Des Moines their home for over 17 years and love being part of their community.
Proceeds from the event to benefit Waukee Area Christian Services mission to serve people's immediate needs and create connections for lifelong wellness.
